Inlays & Onlays in Kennewick

Restoring Your Teeth to Their Original Condition

Inlays and onlays are an effective way to restore the function and appearance of decayed or damaged teeth when a dental crown would be considered excessive. Both inlays and onlays are one-of-a-kind treatment methods in that they are customized for your mouth by using impressions of your teeth. As such, you will be required to make two trips to our office in order to receive your treatment.

For the first trip, our skilled dental team will take an impression of your teeth and send it to the lab for a mold of your inlay or onlay. Then, for your second visit, we will permanently apply the inlay or onlay directly to your teeth in order to restore and strengthen them. Using state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge techniques, we can handle all of your dental problems quickly and efficiently.

Benefits of Inlays & Onlays

A dental inlay involves applying a filling material to the inside of a tooth in order to cover some or all of the area within the points of the tooth. Inlays are usually utilized when a tooth is harmed in such a way that it is not possible to be fixed using a regular filling, but not so damaged that it requires a dental crown. Because inlays are custom-fit, they typically leave teeth strengthened and more durable than teeth that were treated with classic fillings.

Onlays are slightly more extensive than inlays, in that the filling material covers at least one of the points of the tooth. For some patients, an onlay might span the whole chewing surface of the tooth. Onlays are a great treatment option when a tooth requires restoration, but a dental crown is unnecessary.

Several other benefits of inlays and onlays include:

  • Strength – They are made from materials that are more durable and stronger than those used for dental fillings and crowns
  • Fit – Since they are created using a customized mold of your teeth, they allow for maximum comfort and function
  • Color – They are more resistant to tooth discolorations and stains than the materials used for dental fillings and crowns
  • Hygiene – Since they are custom-fit, they are easy to clean and bacteria are less likely to affect the treated area
