Crowns and Bridges
At Grandridge Dental, we understand the importance of strong, healthy teeth. That is why we take great pride in providing tooth restorations that look and feel natural. When you visit our practice for a dental crown or bridgework, you can be confident in knowing that you will leave with natural-looking teeth and a great smile.
We are proud to offer porcelain crowns and bridges, as well as same-day CEREC crowns.
Dental crowns consist of tooth-shaped structures that are placed at the site of missing or damaged teeth in order to restore their appearance and function. Our experts are strong advocates of porcelain dental crowns because of the material’s natural appearance and superb functionality.
Patients receive dental crowns for many reasons, including:
- Protecting teeth that are weakened or damaged
- Root canal treatment
- Improved tooth function
- Enhanced appearance
- Adjustment of misshapen teeth
Porcelain dental crowns are custom built in a special dental laboratory. As a result, patients will need to make two visits to our office to receive this type of dental crown.
The first step in receiving a dental crown is to reduce the designated tooth so the new dental crown can fit properly. After the tooth has been prepared, impressions of the patient’s teeth are taken. These impressions will be used in the construction of the permanent dental crown in order to provide the patient with a restoration that looks completely natural. The patient will then be fitted with a temporary restoration that is designed to last until the permanent dental crown is ready.
When the patient returns for their second visit, a special dental adhesive will be used to permanently attach the custom dental crown to the tooth. Afterwards, the patient will be provided with special instructions on how to care for their new restoration.
Also called partial dentures, dental bridges are designed to replace multiple missing teeth. A dental bridge is comprised of natural-looking artificial teeth that are supported by the adjacent teeth that are still present in the mouth. Much like full dentures, dental bridges can either be removable or permanently fixed within the mouth. Porcelain is one of the finest materials for use in dental bridges because of its natural look and outstanding performance.
Fixed bridges are permanently attached inside the patient’s mouth using one of two methods. They can either be directly bonded to the adjacent supporting teeth, or they are essentially a series of dental crowns applied on top of supporting structures. Removable bridges are kept securely in place when needed through the use of metal clasps or precision attachments. When it’s time for cleaning, removable bridges can quickly and easily be taken out of the mouth by the user.
Same-Day CEREC Crowns
Thanks to advances in CAD technology, it is now possible to create custom dental crowns right in our office without having to wait for them to be built at a dental laboratory. This technology allows patients to receive their dental crown in just one visit to our practice. These same-day crowns are created from a solid block of ceramic and resin material, and they provide the full look and function of healthy, natural teeth.
When receiving a same-day CEREC crown, the patient will have digital photographs of their teeth taken. These photographs are uploaded to a computer so a 3-D model of the teeth can be created using special design software. Using this special software, a design for a custom restoration is established. Once the design has been finalized, the restoration is built using a milling machine. It only takes about 10 to 20 minutes for the restoration to be built, and it can be applied in the same way as any other dental crown.
